Recapturing the traditional, homespun spirit of the Mean Fiddler’s Acoustic Room in Harlesden, proprietor Vince Power and designer Shaun Clarkson formally celebrate the opening of their rustic new bar and venue with a series of free gigs designed to warm the cockles of our hearts.

The perfect welcoming environment for performers and public alike, Power’s Acoustic Room (formerly Power’s Bar) boasts original fixtures and fittings of a Victorian public house – ornate chandeliers, open fireplaces, oak panelled floors and walls, wooden benches and a massive bull’s head over the bar – set against warm burgundy paintwork, retaining all the character of the traditional saloon (it even has swing doors) complete with rear enclave and a small performance podium in the front window.

“The design is almost a non design,” says Shaun Clarkson of his creation, “a place where one would feel totally at home. Your perfect local! Oak panelled walls, ‘nicotine’ paintwork and comfy bent wood chairs around a marble table in front of a roaring fire and live music to boot. Can you picture it? I’m there now with a pint!”

Walls are draped in live music posters, testimonials to the significant part Vince Power and his old company the Mean Fiddler played in the furtive music history of London across three decades – remember Madness or the Sex Pistols in Finsbury Park? Dylan at the Fleadh? Billy Bragg, The Pogues or John Martyn at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden? Ian Dury & The Blockheads at Stratford Rex? Power’s Acoustic Room does.
